Battery Electric Vehicles

  • No belts to replace

  • No mufflers to replace
  • No emission inspections
  • No catalytic converters
  • No starter motors
  • No Alternators
  • Low cost when charging at Home
  • Tax incentives
  • Battery size varies from 45 kwh to 205 kwh
  • 8-10-year battery warranty or
  • 100,000 to 150,000 miles
  • Charge at home
  • No gas to purchase

Cons

  • High cost to purchase
  • High depreciation
  • Cannot charge in some Condo/Apartment
  • May not be good for long road trips
  • Charging stations and APPS
  • Possible high insurance cost
  • One time cost for in home charger

Plug-in Hybrids

Hybrids Are Special in That the Engine and or a Built-In Generator Charge the Battery.

  • Gas mileage varies
  • Affordability varies
  • Serviceable at Manufacturer
  • 8–10-year battery warranty or 100,000 to 150,000 miles
  • Battery sizes vary from 10 kwh to 20 kwh
  • Low cost when charging at Home
  • No starter motors
  • No alternators

Cons

  • Cannot charge in some Condo/Apartment
  • Oil changes required
  • Tune-ups required
  • Radiator flushes required
  • Transmission services required
  • Muffler replacement
  • Catalytic converter replacement
  • Engine air filter replacement
  • Emissions inspection
  • Need to charge the battery
  • Limited range on the battery 20-50 miles
  • One time cost for home charger
  • The brake system flushes every 2 years
  • The cost of gas will vary
  • Cannot charge at DC Fast Chargers (DCFC)
